Ashley’s credentials are impressive. As a sophomore at GSU, she played in all 17 games last year, totaling 19 points on eight goals and three assists, which earned her a spot on the All-Sun Belt Conference first team. Ashley’s successful off the pitch as well, having made the GSU Dean’s List as a finance major.

As a soccer fan, I know the basics of the game and can recognize good play when I see it. I’ve kicked the ball around, but I’ve never been coached on how to really play the game. So I was interested to learn what it really takes to play soccer at high level. And if you want to learn something, there’s no better place to go than to college.

The Georgia Gwinnett College women’s and men’s soccer teams had a successful week in preparation for hosting the AII postseason tournament later this month. The GGC women started the week by taking a 1-0 double-overtime win at home against West Georgia. Mary Vernetti knocked in the game winner, moving the Grizzlies to 13-3-1 on the year.

The New York Cosmos clinched the NASL Fall Championship Saturday night with a win over San Antonio. The Cosmos will now face the Atlanta Silverbacks – two weeks in a row. Saturday, November 2 is the final regular season game for both teams. Then they’ll face off again one week later in the NASL Soccer Bowl. Both games will be played in Atlanta at Silverbacks Park.
