Honduran Midfielder Junior Sandoval Joins Atlanta

The Atlanta Silverbacks will not have a head coach in 2014. Club Chairman Boris Jerkunica made the announcement Tuesday at the Georgia State Soccer Association (GSSA) headquarters: “We’re not going to hire a new coach. We’re actually going to eliminate that position.”

Long-Term Goal Achieved: Silverbacks Introduce Local Ownership Group

The list of North American Soccer League (NASL) teams with local ownership groups has been growing in recent years, and as of Friday, the Atlanta Silverbacks can be added to that list. The Silverbacks have introduced a new ownership group consisting of longtime chairman Boris Jerkunica, longtime vice chairman John Latham and brothers Henry and John Hardin, who run SCI Companies, which specializes in human resource outsourcing. In his post-game press conference, NASL Commissioner Bill Peterson said that the league couldn’t be happier with the game, the teams, and the atmosphere at the Soccer Bowl. “We thought it was a great evening, a wonderful atmosphere, and a great match on the field,” Peterson said. Atlanta head coach Brian Haynes has led a remarkable turnaround for the Silverbacks. When he took over the reins of the team at the halfway point of the 2012 season, the team was in last place in the NASL, having won only 1 game. Under his leadership, they finished the 2012 season with one of the best runs in the second half, compiling a 6-4-4 record. (Atlanta – GA) A Host Committee of influential Atlanta area business executives and leaders who share a passion for soccer have joined forces with the North American Soccer League and the Atlanta Silverbacks to benefit NASL Soccer Bowl 2013, which will be played in Atlanta on Saturday, November 9. Led by Brian Leary, Managing Director of Jacoby Development, the working group is made up of an Executive Committee and a Steering Committee to provide strategic recommendations for the NASL championship game and attract corporate partners throughout Metro Atlanta.  All members of both committees are stakeholders in soccer either locally or within the NASL.   CONTINUE READING
