Atlanta (GA) – With preseason training camp kicking off this weekend, the Atlanta Silverbacks are rounding out their roster with some final additions. The Silverbacks have signed former Toronto FC midfielder Junior Burgos to a contract, the club announced Wednesday, pending league and USSF approval.

Midfielder Junior Sandoval, who played for the club in 2011, has signed with the Silverbacks, pending USSF and ITC approval, after spending nearly two seasons with CD Marathón in his native country of Honduras.

The Atlanta Silverbacks will not have a head coach in 2014. Club Chairman Boris Jerkunica made the announcement Tuesday at the Georgia State Soccer Association (GSSA) headquarters: “We’re not going to hire a new coach. We’re actually going to eliminate that position.”
Long-Term Goal Achieved: Silverbacks Introduce Local Ownership Group
The list of North American Soccer League (NASL) teams with local ownership groups has been growing in recent years, and as of Friday, the Atlanta Silverbacks can be added to that list. The Silverbacks have introduced a new ownership group consisting of longtime chairman Boris Jerkunica, longtime vice chairman John Latham and brothers Henry and John Hardin, who run SCI Companies, which specializes in human resource outsourcing. Atlanta head coach Brian Haynes has led a remarkable turnaround for the Silverbacks. When he took over the reins of the team at the halfway point of the 2012 season, the team was in last place in the NASL, having won only 1 game. Under his leadership, they finished the 2012 season with one of the best runs in the second half, compiling a 6-4-4 record.
